FAQs

Bathroom Fitting Questions from Bromley Homeowners

Straight answers to the questions people ask before booking a bathroom fitter. If yours isn't here, call and ask.

Is the referral really free?

Yes. There is no charge to homeowners for the introduction, the survey or the written quote.

Who is my contract with?

With the fitter who does the work. You agree the price, dates, payment stages and any guarantee directly with them. We don't take payments from homeowners.

How long does a new bathroom take to fit?

A straightforward replacement in the same layout often takes five to ten working days. Moving pipework, a wet room, or problems found under the old floor add time. The fitter gives you a timescale with the quote.

Do bathroom fitters do the tiling too?

Most full bathroom jobs include tiling, either by the fitter or a tiler they work with regularly. Check the quote says who tiles, how much area is covered and whether tiles are supplied.

What is the difference between a plumber and a bathroom fitter?

A plumber deals with water supply, waste and heating. A bathroom fitter manages the whole room: strip-out, plumbing, boarding, tiling, fitting the suite and finishing, and brings in a registered electrician where the work needs one.

Should I keep a bath or switch to a shower?

If yours is the only bathroom in a family house, keeping a bath usually suits buyers with young children. Where there is a second bath elsewhere, or the household is older, a walk-in shower is often the more useful choice.

Can I get help paying for an accessible bathroom?

Possibly. Bromley Council runs the Disabled Facilities Grant, which is means-tested and usually starts with an occupational therapy assessment. Some disability adaptations also qualify for VAT relief. Our disabled bathrooms guide explains both.

Do I need building regulations approval for a new bathroom?

Replacing a suite in the same place usually doesn't. New drainage, most new electrical circuits and some structural changes are covered by the Building Regulations, and the fitter or electrician should handle notification and give you certificates.

What do I need to decide before the survey?

Roughly what you want to change, whether you'll supply the suite, any access needs, and your ideal timing. You don't need a design: the fitter can talk through options on the day.

Which areas do you cover?

The whole London Borough of Bromley, including Beckenham, Orpington, West Wickham, Chislehurst, Petts Wood, Penge and Anerley, Bickley, Hayes, Shortlands and Biggin Hill.

For prices, see the bathroom costs guide. For accessible bathrooms, read the disabled bathrooms guide.
